PANTILIMON: “Exactly What I Was Hoping For”
IT WAS double delight for debutant keeper Costel Pantilimon after this afternoon’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, as he kept a clean sheet and saw his new side safely progress to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup.
The Watford stopper was forced into an important stop in the dying moments at the City Ground to secure the win, and he couldn't be happier with the win and his own contribution.
“It’s exactly what I was hoping for before the game,” he told watfordfc.com.
“To have a clean-sheet, the team to win and to go forward in the FA Cup. It’s important for me because it’s a nice debut and it’s important to start with the win.
“For me, I try to help the team every time I have the chance and I just do my job. This is the most important thing in this moment and that’s it.”
Pantilimon was one of seven changes Quique Sanchez Flores made to the side, and the 28-year-old believes this is evidence of the excellent depth currently available in the squad.
“Today shows we are strong in all positions and this is important for a team who wants to have strong objectives, and we showed it today. I think everyone showed they can be a part of the first 11.
“I think the result was the most important thing today. It’s true it was a tough game and there was more fighting than chances on both goals, but the final result is the most important and we take it.”
With regular number one Heurelho Gomes rested this afternoon, Pantilimon is hoping the FA Cup will continue to provide him with the opportunity to show what he can do.
“I do my best in every training session and in every game. It’s exactly like I said before I came here, I come with a positive mind and a positive way to find my place in the first 11, and for sure, I’ll fight for my position in the team.
“But like I said before, I respect everyone I work with because they are great players and it’s a pleasure to be part of this team.”
