Watford FC Ladies have signed former Tottenham Hotspur defender Anne Meiwald.
Meiwald brings a wealth of footballing experience to the Golden Girls' back four, joining from a Tottenham Hotspur side which successfully gained promotion to the WSL last season, with previous spells at London Bees and Chelsea Women.
“I'd heard good things about Watford, so wanted to come and see whether the things I'd heard where true! Luckily it was and straight away I knew this was the environment for me.” Meiwald told watfordfc.com.
“The set-up here has been very impressive since day one. I wanted to be at a club that sets high standards and that's exactly what I've found at Watford. Everyone is challenging each other to be better all the time.”
Meiwald has been settling in well with the Golden Girls and, being the third signing this season from Tottenham, she has been around some familiar faces.
The coaches and staff have been impressed with Meiwald during our pre-season friendlies and Anne and the coaches are excited for the league start again this weekend.
“I loved being involved in the pre-season games. We played some great football, especially with some new faces in the team. It was great to be back on the pitch and I can't wait to get started in the league now.”
With Meiwald being part of Tottenham’s success in promotion during 2018/19 season, her hopes are set high for her and the team. After Watford FC’s successful start to the FAWNL campaign, she is keen to continue the winning streak.
“Personally, I want to be playing week in, week out and playing my best to help the team win week in, week out and enjoy myself while I'm at it! As a team we want to aim for the highest goal which is promotion.”
“I'm feeling very positive about the game on Sunday. I'm excited to see what this season brings. I've got a good feeling and complete belief in my teammates and I to achieve the goals we have set ourselves. We have had some time to work on how we want to play in training and I'm confident that if we play at the standard I know we are capable of, and have shown in preseason, then we will come away with a win.”
