Near And Far: August Supporters' Group Of The Month

In the first of a new series on, we focus on one Supporters' Group each month, as we look at how Watford fans - both near and far - support the club they love.

Southern Counties Hornets

The Southern Counties Hornets or ‘SC Horns’, as they are commonly known, are a relatively new supporters’ group, established just three years ago.

They aim to connect fans based in the Southern Counties areas, including Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Dorset, Berkshire and many more, to discuss all things Watford FC, whether at regular meet-ups or prior to matches.

SC Horns have a growing membership of more than 260 members, with communication between supporters made easy though a thriving Facebook page.

Those not part of the Facebook group can keep up-to-date with upcoming events and the latest news through a mailing list.

Due to the huge landscape the group represents, with several different counties involved, local sub groups have been set up.

These include the Dorset Horns and South Coast Hornets.

The group have maintained regular activities particularly in the run-up to matches, including:

  • A match-day roll call.
  • A post-match review with player ratings and a Man of the Match poll.
  • A Player of the Month poll.

SC Horns work tirelessly in the run-up to Hornets games to provide their followers with all the essential information ahead of a matchday.

Yet, the burden of responsibility is carried proudly on the shoulders of 10-year-old Rudy, who collates together the vital match statistics on his beloved Hornets side. Quite a feat for the youngster!

No supporters' group can function without a bit of healthy competition between its members and SC Horns’ very own matchday prediction league has certainly raised the rivalry amongst its members, all in good spirits of course!

Sean Thomason was the outright winner of the league in 2017/18, picking up the inaugural crown, 'The David Pickett Memorial Trophy'.

The matchday prediction trophy is named in honour of David Pickett, who tragically passed away in June, aged 59.

David was a devoted Hornets supporter and a regular attendee at away fixtures.

He was an active member of the SC Horns, along with his family who continue to be members of the supporters’ group.

With the remarkable success of the first matchday predictor league, the group set up a World Cup edition in June, which proved just as popular.

Avi Govind from Basingstoke emerged as the winner, after another highly contested competition.

Keith Riley of the admin team was integral in collecting the scores and predictions throughout the tournament, and presented the victorious Hornet with a replica World Cup trophy.

SC Horns are always on the lookout for new members to add to their current roster and operate in the following areas:

  • Surrey
  • Sussex
  • Hampshire
  • Dorset
  • Wiltshire
  • Oxfordshire
  • Berkshire
  • Kent

Hornets who are keen to join the group are warmly invited to get in contact either through the Facebook page, which can be found at, or by emailing

The group have a small admin team who ensure that members feel welcome and at home with their supporters’ group.

Hilda, Keith, Gary, Hemal and Stephen can all be reached through the contact details provided above and are happy to answer any queries you may have.
