Walter Speaks

Watford Head Coach Walter Mazzarri spoke post-match to Sky Sports Geoff Shreeves:

"When a manager loses a game like this they say he's unlucky and tries to find excuses.

"[There were] Two fouls on Cleverley and Capoue. It was unfortunate as we could have scored before then. Then these episodes made us lose the game.

"The most positive thing is we had 40 points with six games remaining. We have had many injuries."

10:20 PM

“It's Massively Disappointing” - Cleverley

Tom Cleverley gave his post-match thoughts to the broadcast media after this evening's narrow loss to Chelsea:

"When we've not scored for four or five games to score three here, it's then massively disappointing not to get anything.

"To concede three goals from set pieces was very disappointing.

"We haven't got to 40 points and put our feet up.

"I'm glad we've improved today to give our away supporters some goals and a performance.

"We'll be working hard and don't want to finish with six defeats."

10:10 PM

“I Saw The Space And Went For It” - Janmaat

The Golden Boys' second goalscorer Daryl Janmaat spoke to Sky Sports after the final whistle:

"The last few games we did not play badly and I think today we deserved a point but if you concede 3 goals from set pieces we can't expect to win. We have to concentrate more.

"I think both teams played offensive football and tried to win. We came back to 3-3 and we tried to get a point. They scored after 88 minutes and that was a shame because I thought we could get something from the game.

"It was a good goal, I saw the space and went for it.

"We wanted to win today, we tried. We must try to get a win against Manchester City and then next season we must do better."

9:55 PM

FULL-TIME: Chelsea 4-3 Watford

It's all over here - Chelsea steal what would have been a deserved point for Watford.

The hosts were ahead 2-1 at the break, goals from John Terry and Cesar Azpilicueta sandwiching an Etienne Capoue header.

Michi Batshuayi struck early in the second before a brilliant solo effort from Daryl Janmaat, and an equaliser from substitute Stefano Okaka.

But Chelsea, as they have done all season, found a way, and it was from the bench in the form of Cesc Fabregas, who netted late to earn three points.

Fabregas scores

Etienne Capoue is out-fought in midfield and Chelsea come forward. Willian plays the ball inside and Fabregas finds the corner from the edge of the area.

Gutting for the Hornets if that's the winner - they deserved a point. Five minutes added time.

HALF-TIME: Chelsea 2-1 Watford

It's been entertaining stuff at Stamford Bridge this evening, but the Hornets go in a goal behind despite a battling first-half performance.

The Blues have scored from two set-pieces - the goals coming from John Terry and César Azpilicueta respectively - while Étienne Capoue nicked one back in-between those for the hosts with Watford's first away goal since winning at Arsenal in January.

8:38 PM

Two for Capoue

Étienne Capoue scores and celebrates his second goal of the season against the Blues.

8:36 PM - 36 MIN

Chelsea back in front

Another set-piece and Chelsea get their lead back.

A corner comes in and is only half-cleared to the on-rushing Cesar Azpilicueta who smashes the ball low and hard past Gomes.

Gomes to the rescue

We've written that before here at watfordfc.com - what a season the veteran Brazilian has had.

Hazard breaks into the area and Gomes is out like a shot to smother. Chelsea penalty claims waved away, quite rightly, as he gets a solid touch on the ball.

We've scored a goal!

That was a long, long time coming! Etienne Capoue scores Watford's first goal away from home since January to level it up.

A huge mix up in the Chelsea back-four sees John Terry head the ball aimlessly back into the penalty area, and Capoue sneaks in to nod past Asmir Begovic.

“We Have Come Here To Get Something” - Gomes

Hornets gloveman Heurelho Gomes spoke to Sky Sports pre-match:

"Our away form is not the best but we played some good stuff last game. We can play a bit more freely tonight.

"We could have done much better but this league is so tough.

"They will be more relaxed but we have come here to try and get something. We are going to try and finish strongly and give them a good game."

TEAM NEWS

HORNETS: Gomes (GK) (C); Mariappa, Prödl, Holebas; Amrabat, Cleverley, Behrami, Doucouré, Janmaat; Capoue; Niang.

Subs: Pantilimon (GK), Mason, Eleftheriou, Zúñiga, D Pereira, Okaka, Deeney.

CHELSEA: Begovic (GK); Zouma, Terry (C), Ake; Azpilucueta, Chalobah, Kante, Kenedy; Willian, Hazard; Batshuayi.

Subs: Eduardo (GK), Alonso, Fabregas, Pedro, Costa, Cahill, Aina.

Three changes for the Hornets, and Walter Mazzarri's not been afraid to mix things up after four straight defeats.

Nordin Amrabat, Tom Cleverley & M'Baye Niang replace Christian Kabasele (thigh injury), Stefano Okaka & Troy Deeney.

That leaves M'Baye Niang to lead the line against a much changed Chelsea XI.

John Terry comes into the side, as do former Hornets Nathan Ake and Kenedy. Another one-time 'Orn Nathaniel Chalobah is in midfield.

Eden Hazard and Willian start, but Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill all start on the bench.

ICYMI: Opposition Focus | Chelsea

Football Whispers' deputy editor and Chelsea fan Adam Newson provides the lowdown on the Blues...

"There are many sides who would sit back and relax having clinched a title, but they wouldn't be managed by Antonio Conte. The Italian will ensure the Blues are in the right frame of mind to put on a show at Stamford Bridge and demonstrate why they are champions."

Good evening Hornets and welcome to Stamford Bridge - now with 'Home of the Champions' emblazoned on the side...

Watford could be in for a tough night, but here's hoping the Blues have had a heavy weekend after winning the title on Friday night.
