Transfer round-up

The January transfer window is now shut!

INS:

Former player of the season Tom Cleverley returned for a second spell with the Golden Boys, after he joined on-loan from Everton.

Mauro Zarate signed on a two-and-a-half year contract from Italian Serie A side Fiorentina, while M'Baye Niang also made the switch from the Italian league after he joined on-loan from AC Milan.

OUTS:

Alex Jakubiak went on-loan to Wycombe Wanderers and came off the bench this evening, scoring on his debut in a 4-2 loss at Exeter City.

Jerome Sinclair joined former Hornets boss Gianfranco Zola at Birmingham City in the Championship.

Michael Folivi joined Coventry City on-loan on deadline day as he looks to step-up his development after making his Hornets debut this month.

Juan Carlos Paredes made a loan move to Olympiakos, with the option of a permanent move in the summer.

Adlene Guedioura made a late switch to Premier League rivals Middlesbrough, although with Watford having played Boro twice already this season, he will not feature against the Hornets.

The biggest move of the window was the departure of Odion Ighalo, who made 100 appearances for Watford. He has joined Changchun Yatai in China.

10:40 PM

Mazzarri post-match

Walter Mazzarri spoke to the broadcast media after the final whistle:

"Came as we prepared it and as we wanted first half. The second half different. Some players like Janmaat and Niang are still finding optimum condition. They pushed us a lot in second half.

"We needed this victory to bring morale and conviction to whole team and to grow as a team.

"We had to take decisions on game at Millwall. If we wanted to play like this today had to do formation at Millwall. This is the reason. I am sorry we are out of cup but we had to make these decisions.

"[On presssing in the first half] Against a great team in their stadium we don't allow them to play with the ball. We did it very well. We cannot do it for 90 minutes but this was the tactic."

Deeney on GT- “We'd like to dedicate this result to his family”

The Hornets' second goalscorer spoke to Sky after the final whistle about an important result for Watford:

"It's Graham Taylor's funeral tomorrow and we'd like to dedicate this result to his family.

"I think the first half performance is something GT would be very proud of. I think the result is the best thing we can give to him and his family."

10:00 PM

What a result!

First-half goals from Kaboul and Deeney capped an excellent performance for the Hornets.

The first 45 minutes showed what the Golden Boys are capable of going forward and in the second-half Watford displayed a steely determination not to be beaten, even when Arsenal got a goal back through Iwobi.

The 3,000 that travelled to The Emirates were well rewarded for their efforts Thank you for your support as always - you 'orns!

HALF-TIME: Arsenal 0-2 Watford

Yep, you read that right. Watford are two goals to the good at Arsenal.

Goals inside fifteen minutes from Kaboul and Deeney give Watford what can fairly be described as a shock lead, but they absolutely deserve it. Arsenal have been kept at bay and Mazzarri's men have created chances. A long way to go, though.

IT'S TWO!!

Absolute scenes here as a powerful run from Capoue right through the middle of the Arsenal team sees the ball land at Deeney's feet allowing him to put the Hornets two-nil up.

Capoue tried a low shot but the ball deflected off Cech's foot right into the path of the onrushing Deeney - it was too easy for the skipper as he smashed the ball into the net with Cech nowhere to be seen and recovering Arsenal defenders unable to clear off the line.

Wenger on Niang

M'Baye Niang once had a trial at Arsenal, according to Arsene Wenger. The Gunners' loss is our gain!

"I know Niang well because he played for Caen and we had him here [on trial]," Wenger said. “He’s a very talented striker individually, and he can create chances.

"He’s very strong as well physically, and very quick. I think he will be a major asset for them.

"He's on loan from AC Milan and we have to keep him quiet because he’s a guy who can do something special."
