Watford are excited to announce the arrival of one of our biggest signings of the summer as the former Aston Villa Women General Manager Amber Wildgust has taken up the same position with the Golden Girls.
Wildgust comes with vast experience as she joined Aston Villa back in November 2017 and oversaw a complete transformation of the club which ended in their debut season in the FA Women’s Super League in 2020/21 as a fully professional outfit.
When Wildgust took over almost four years ago, the Midlands club were languishing at the wrong end of the table, finishing ninth out of 10 in 2017/18. The following season saw good progress as a more respectable finish of sixth was achieved but it was in the 2019/20 campaign when the club really grew into their own and gained promotion.
Excited by the prospect of achieving similar goals – but “doing it even better” this time around, in her own words – it feels like Watford are in very good hands as they head into the new season in just over two weeks’ time.
“After a great four years at Aston Villa, where I learned many vital lessons and grew so much as a person, I’m delighted that the next chapter of my career will be at Watford FC,” she said.
“Joining a progressive club has lit a fire within me to want to take the team to new heights, building on the great foundations that are already in place.
“I’m looking forward to working with the staff and players, and of course to meeting the fans. If we all pull in the same direction, good times are ahead for Watford Women.”
