Women: Watford To Host Norwich City In FA WNL Cup Determining Round

By: Watford FC Staff

The Golden Girls will host Norwich City Women in the Determining Round of the FA WNL Cup, with ties scheduled to be played on Sunday September 11.

Winners of the Determining Round ties will enter the FA WNL Cup, with those who are defeated entering the FA WNL Plate.

This will be the first time the Hornets are playing in the competition since 2019/20. While Watford lost to Portsmouth after extra time in the Determining Round that season, the team would go on a fantastic run in the Plate.

Victories over Kent Football United, Oxford United, Chichester City, and a tremendous win away at Middlesbrough after going down down to ten (with centre-back Hattie Kettle playing in goal after the red card), saw the Golden Girls reach the final.

That match-up against West Bromwich Albion would ultimately not take place. A countrywide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic meant the game was postponed, and with the season eventually declared null and void, it was never re-scheduled.

Despite not being able to play that final, it’s something Watford won’t want to be attempting to reach again this time around. The Hornets will have to get past a Norwich City side though if they want to enter the Cup, rather than the Plate.

Norwich currently play in the FA WNL Division One South East, one tier lower than Damon Lathrope’s side. Last campaign saw them finish in eighth place, with Natasha Snelling their top scorer with nine goals.
