Women: Ward In Wales Squad For June Friendly

By: Watford FC Staff

Helen Ward has been called up to Wales’ squad for their fixture against New Zealand later this month.

The team will spend almost a week training in Spain, before then taking on the Football Ferns in a friendly on June 28 at the Pinatar Arena.

Ward started when the two countries last met back in 2019, with the Welsh ending up victorious by a single-goal margin on that occasion.

Wales’ record goalscorer recently earned her 100th cap for her country and will be looking to add to that tally next week.

The match will provide good preparation for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in September, when Wales will be continuing their quest to reach the final tournament, which is being jointly hosted by New Zealand and Australia.

Four points from the fixtures against Greece and Slovenia will guarantee Gemma Grainger’s side a spot in the play-offs, and even at this stage, attention will very much be on the challenges ahead.
