Women: Lancaster & Watford To Part Ways

By: Watford FC Staff

Clinton Lancaster has agreed to leave his post as Watford FC Women’s Head Coach by mutual consent.

The Golden Girls find themselves at the foot of The FA Women’s Championship table at the half-way point of the 2021/22 campaign, with the season presenting many difficulties including some injuries to key players – all of which he has worked very hard to overcome.

Despite Clinton’s sterling service to Watford FC, which goes back several years beyond his full-time appointment to the role this summer, the Hornets believe a change at the top of its coaching structure may help provide new impetus for the remainder of the term – as the club bids to retain its hard-earned Championship status.

The club wishes to place on record its thanks to Clinton for all of his work in a number of different coaching roles within the Women’s set-up here at Watford.

Said Lancaster: “I’m exceptionally proud of the part I’ve played in helping giving women’s football due prominence within Watford Football Club.

“That’s come through a hell of lot of dedication from the many players and staff who’ve helped shaped our success over these past few seasons. It’s been a privilege to help lead that progress.”

He added: “Disruptions to the past two seasons due to Covid haven’t allowed us to maintain much of a momentum, but we’ve had a great group of players and I’ve formed some life-long friendships across the squad and staff.

“I’m disappointed not to be able to be seeing the full season through but leave Watford with nothing but pride and some great memories.”

Clinton will always be a close friend of Watford FC Women and is ensured of a warm welcome at Vicarage Road and Kings Langley FC in the future.

Interim coaching arrangements will immediately be in place while the club conducts a recruitment process to appoint a new Head Coach.
