Women: Lafayette Signs On

By: Watford FC Staff

Watford FC Women are pleased to announce the signing of highly-rated defender Abbie Lafayette.

The 21-year-old left-back, born in Watford, returns to Hertfordshire following five years at Ipswich Town, where she thrived in several positions at National League level.

Having moved to the Tractor Girls from local side Garston Ladies, Lafayette scored on her senior debut against Cambridge United and became a regular in the side aged just 17, featuring heavily in a midfield role before becoming a wing-back in recent seasons.

Lafayette signed professional terms with third-tier Ipswich in August 2021 and was key to an energetic, youthful side that finished third and second in successive campaigns, missing out on the league title last term to the Hornets on goal difference.

A technical dribbler on the left flank with the capability to track back and join the attack, Lafayette has already joined up with the Golden Girls for pre-season, featuring in friendly victories over Oxford United and Actonians.

Welcome to Watford, Abbie!
