Women: Hornets Sign Johns

Watford FC Women are pleased to confirm the arrival of Carly Johns following the striker’s departure from Oxford United, as the Hornets continue to bolster their squad ahead of the 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign.

Last season’s top goalscorer in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division, Johns netted 15 in the third-tier, with the U’s missing out narrowly on promotion in a thrilling title race alongside the Golden Girls and Ipswich Town.

Beginning her career in Oxford’s youth sides, Johns impressed in FA Youth Cup competition, reaching the semi-finals. Ascending to the first-team, the striker signed her first senior contract in July 2019 soon after winning the club’s Under-16s Player of the Season award.

Johns went on to make a vital contribution to the third-tier outfit’s success, scoring 52 goals in 76 games as Oxford registered top-three finishes in three consecutive campaigns.

The forward has already found the target in pre-season, adding to an attack that includes fellow new arrival Michelle Agyemang and last season’s key performers Annie Rossiter, Bianca Baptiste, Flo Fyfe and Gemma Davison.

Welcome to Watford, Carly!
