Women: Four New Signings & Ferguson Extends Contract

By: Watford FC Staff

Watford FC Women are thrilled to reveal four new signings and a re-signing Hornet ahead of the new campaign, with Emily Wallace, Melis Mehmet, Morgan Rogers and Scarlett Williams joining the club alongside goalkeeper Georgie Ferguson, who remains with the Golden Girls for 2022/23.

Ferguson was the Hornets’ first-choice between the sticks in 2021/22, and joins six teammates who re-signed earlier in the summer. The 19-year-old, from a family of Watford Season Ticket holders, will be hoping to add more stunning saves to her collection in the upcoming campaign.

Welsh pair Rogers and Williams make the move having been with Tottenham Hotspur, where they showed their qualities with Spurs’ academy side. Rogers has signed on a permanent basis, while Williams has arrived on a dual-sign agreement from the North London outfit.

Rogers will be no stranger to Golden Girls fans, having originally signed for Watford in January this year on a similar arrangement.

The defender made her debut away at Liverpool and would go on to establish herself in the first team, impressing in her seven appearances.

She is also a Welsh youth international who has earned several call-ups to the senior set-up. Just like her former and current teammate, Williams has also represented her country at youth level, having been a key part of Wales’ Under-19 side recently.

Last season was a bit of a breakthrough year for Williams, as she made her senior debut for Tottenham Hotspur too, featuring against Coventry United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.

The talented youngster can play in defence and midfield, and will now be looking to make an impact at first-team level with the Golden Girls.

Mehmet joins Damon Lathrope’s side following 11 years with Arsenal. The exciting full-back, 19, spent last term on loan at London City Lionesses in her first taste of first-team football, having made her Gunners debut against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season.

Attacking full-back Wallace has also agreed terms to become a Hornet. Previously at Oxford United and Reading, the young defender has experience at this level and netted for the first time in March against Hounslow, making 31 appearances in 2021/22.

A warm welcome to all of our new signings, and congratulations to Georgie!
