By: Watford FC Staff

The Golden Girls return to Grosvenor Vale for the first time since the opening-day draw with Durham this Sunday, with Blackburn Rovers the visitors in the Barclays Women’s Championship (September 17, 2pm KO).

Fresh from away trips to London City Lionesses and Charlton Athletic, Damon Lathrope’s side will be looking to build on last weekend’s 3-2 victory at The Valley back on home soil.

Ahead of kick-off, here’s everything you need to know...

The Match

The last time the Golden Girls and Blackburn Rovers met was back in January 2022, when the latter made the trip south to Kings Langley. The teams played out a goalless draw that day, with only three of the current Watford squad involved.

Both sides come into this weekend’s game off the back of battling wins. The visitors took all three points as they defeated Sheffield United 2-1 at home last Sunday, coming from behind after a strike in the second minute for the Blades.

The Hornets raced into their own lead away at Charlton last time out, with two goals from Sophie McLean and a third Carly Johns strike in as many games yielding a 3-0 half-time lead. Charlton battled back after the interval, but a stern defensive display earned Lathrope’s charges a first win of the campaign.

Both sides will be looking to secure the full share of the spoils as they aim to keep pace with early league leaders Crystal Palace. So, get down to Grosvenor Vale, make some noise and help push the Golden Girls towards another valuable victory.
