Women: Bennett On Birmingham Win

By: Watford FC Staff

Defender Harley Bennett spoke to watfordfc.com after Watford FC Women made it two victories in a row in the Barclays Women’s Championship thanks to a 2-0 win over Birmingham City.

Michelle Agyemang scored twice from the bench to boost the Hornets' chances of staying up, following last weekend's win at Durham by the same scoreline.

Read what Bennett had to say below:

Obviously as a defender to keep a clean sheet is what we thrive on. I think we’re starting to get what we deserve. All season we’ve played well and just not got the results, so to get some points on the board and a clean sheet feels good.

We spoke a lot about being rigid out of possession and battling and making sure we’re at least in the game in that respect. We know that if we do stay in the game we’ve got what it takes going forward. We’re defending set-pieces really well, Saf’s [Middleton-Patel] been great [in goal] since she’s come in. We’re building momentum.

I’ve never played wing back. Damo [Damon Lathrope] spoke to me and said "how do you feel about playing there?" and I said obviously I’d do what the team needs. I don’t mind running, today was a bit tough as the pitch is a bit slanted. Pressing high up I enjoy doing.

I’m glad she’s [Agyemang] on my team. We have to play against her in training and she’s just so powerful. An unreal performance but also we stayed in the game for 70 minutes and we were able to bring her on and do that. She’s fantastic and scores us goals but it’s very much a team effort.

We’re a great footballing team and we’ve done that throughout the season. Now we kinda know what the league's about and we’ve changed how we are playing a little bit. For us to show that side of ourselves where we can battle and we can go toe-to-toe with two of the best teams in the league physically, for us to be able to adapt and get the points, I think it’s what we deserve.

I don’t want the break [two weeks until the next match]. We spoke about riding the wave of the last game and we’ve gone and done that. I think the team truly believe now. We believed anyway, it was just a case of finding a way to get the results. A break could be good for the bodies but we’re raring to go.
