Thank You Carers: Hornets Deliver Cupcakes & Golden Times Across Herts

By: Watford FC Staff

Staff and residents at care homes across south west Hertfordshire received a surprise delivery this week in the form of cupcakes and a specially created newspaper as a thank you from the club and the Community Sports & Education Trust.

More than 500 cupcakes from The Kitchen Croxley were safely distributed to care homes in the local area, with a special message thanking carers for all their work through this exceptional time.

The deliveries also included copies of ‘Golden Times’, a new publication created in partnership between the club and the Trust to help vulnerable or isolated supporters keep in touch with the club while regular programmes such as Golden Memories, Golden Friends and Extra Time are unable to operate as normal.

The special newspaper included a feature on the Hornets At Home programme, a foreward from Trust patron Rita Taylor as well as original articles and nostalgic content to keep our fans entertained and remind them the club and the Trust are thinking of them.

Hannah Foster, Project Officer for Older Adults at Watford FC's Community Sports & Education Trust, said: “The carers for the elderly and vulnerable have worked long and tirelessly during this pandemic to provide unconditional support and care, so this was a small way of thanking them for going above and beyond, to know they are valued just as much as the amazing staff working at the hospital on the frontline.

“Knowing the carers, they will just view it as doing their job and will probably give the cakes to the residents! The smiles the delivery of cakes put on the faces of those at the care homes was really something, so I just want to thank Linda Anderson at The Kitchen Croxley for bringing this joint venture between the club and the Trust to life. It really is the small things that make such a difference.”
