Everyone at Watford FC is truly saddened to learn of the death of legendary former Watford Observer Assistant Editor Oliver Phillips.

“I was very sad to hear of Oli’s passing earlier today,” said Hornets’ Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury.

“Although I met him once or twice, I didn’t know him personally as his many decades covering our club ended long before I joined.

“Colleagues recently collaborated with The Watford Observer to ensure there would be a lasting tribute to his extraordinarily long time reporting on Watford FC, and we were only too happy to name our Media Suite in Oli’s name – something I understand he was humbled to learn of.”

Added Duxbury: “He was very highly regarded both locally and within journalism nationally, at a time when I’m sure the focus on Watford under Graham Taylor and Elton John could barely have been higher.

“It will be our privilege to pay tribute to Oli at next weekend’s home fixture here at Vicarage Road, where he spent so many hours helping bring supporters all of the news and expert insight.”
