Team News: Watford v Sunderland

Ismaïla Sarr will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship meeting with Sunderland (September 17, 3pm KO), following a minor ankle injury suffered in midweek against Blackburn Rovers.

Defender Kortney Hause also faces a late fitness test having missed the previous game due to an ankle sprain, with Head Coach Rob Edwards discussing the duo in his pre-match press conference.

“Kortney and Isma we’re looking at and will be making decisions on them today, but they’re fairly close,” noted Edwards.

Full-back Hassane Kamara may be available to Edwards against the Black Cats, and is in training after a muscle strain. Edwards is ‘hopeful’ of the defender’s return.

Jeremy Ngakia suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s defeat to Blackburn, and will be out for a longer period of time.

“Jeremy unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury and will probably be a bit longer-term,” continued Edwards, 39.

“On the human side I’m really disappointed for him because I thought he did well [against Blackburn], he was one of the few positives to come out of it until his injury.”

Imrân Louza is back on the grass and training with the first-team following knee surgery at the end of last season, with fellow midfielder Tom Cleverley having a similar time-frame on his return from a tendon injury. Cleverley gave an update on his recovery on Thursday.

“With Tom we’re hoping for after the international break,” added Edwards. “Imrân will be similar, he’s progressing really well and doing well in training.”

Midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru and striker Rey Manaj are also continuing their longer-term rehabilitation from knee and hamstring injuries respectively.
