Team News: Cleverley Updates On Injuries

By: Watford FC Staff

Interim Head Coach Tom Cleverley provided an injury update ahead of the Sky Bet Championship clash at home to Leeds United on Friday (March 29, 8pm KO).

Cleverley discussed Jamal Lewis, Ryan Andrews and James Morris and also covered the Hornets who will be returning from representing their countries during the international break.

"Jamal Lewis went for a scan the evening after he was ruled out of the Birmingham game; the scan result ruled him out of going away with Northern Ireland," Cleverley said.

"We’re hopeful he’ll be part of the Easter period.

"Ryan Andrews went with England Under-20s and got a dead leg while he was there. I spoke to the Head Coach Ben Futcher, who said Ryan wouldn’t be available for their first match so it was probably best that he went back to the club. He’s re-joined the group to train.

"James Morris had a little tightness in the week; we’re hopeful he’ll be fine. Obviously Ken Sema and Jeremy Ngakia remain as our mid-term injuries. Everyone else is good to go."

It was a successful international window for Watford players, with Giorgi Chakvetadze qualifying for this summer's European Championships in Germany with Georgia after a play-off win over Greece.

Ismaël Koné and Canada qualified for the Copa América and Yáser Asprilla scored for Colombia in their 3-2 win over Romania.

"I’m really happy for these guys," said Cleverley. "It [reaching the Euros] is massive for Giorgi and his country.

"I think he’s been recognised by his Prime Minister and I’m sure there will be celebrations over there.

"We expect him to return tomorrow [Thursday] and then we’ll assess him, whether he’s fit to be involved on Friday.

"It was great for Yáser to get a goal and an important one as well. Koné has already returned, Francisco Sierralta and Ryan Porteous return today [Wednesday] and then all focus is on Leeds."

Wesley Hoedt will miss the Leeds fixture as he serves the final game of his two-match suspension.
