Watford FC were delighted to welcome representatives from the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and the Eredivisie to discuss the club’s approach to sustainability.

Aware of our role within our local community and on a global stage, Watford have taken vital steps to affirm our commitment to becoming a sustainable business.

We feel it is essential to be collaborative to help lead the change in making football a more environmentally conscious platform and setting plans to reduce our carbon footprint.

Attended by representatives from top-flight clubs such as AFC Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord, the presentation focused on inspiring clubs to operate differently to reduce our impact on the environment, and was held at Vicarage Road before the Hornets played against Birmingham City (Tuesday March 14).

The event also concentrated on how important the right partnerships are and some of the challenges in delivering a great supporter experience, while reducing our carbon footprint and working alongside competing business priorities.

On the event, Head of Sustainability and Procurement at Watford FC, Tarang Panchal, said: “Through their loyal and vast following, football clubs have a unique opportunity to create a ripple effect in their communities, countries and even globally by sharing their sustainability journeys and inspiring our fans and followers.

“Watford FC are embracing this opportunity and we were delighted to welcome to Vicarage Road a delegate of representatives across Dutch football as they go on a tour of British football clubs to talk about and share the great work we have done so far around environmental sustainability.”
