Stats Buzz: Leicester City In Numbers

By: Watford FC Staff

The final home match of the season is next up for the Hornets, as we welcome Leicester City to Vicarage Road this Sunday (May 15, 2pm KO) in the Premier League.

Ahead of what promises to be an enticing encounter, we take a look at some of the stats, facts and figures that surround the fixture...

Previous Meetings

Watford have lost just two of their last 11 home league games against Leicester City (W7, D2), and are unbeaten in their last four (W3, D1).

The Foxes are looking to complete the Premier League double over Watford for just the second time, having previously done so in their 2015/16 title-winning campaign.

This exact fixture finished 1-1 the last time it was played (June 2020), despite Ben Chilwell opening the scoring for Leicester in the 90th minute. It’s one of just two Premier League games to finish 1-1 despite being goalless going into the last minute, along with Arsenal v Liverpool in April 2011.

Key Players

Joshua King and Emmanuel Dennis scored for Watford in their 4-2 defeat against Leicester in the reverse fixture – the last Hornets player to score home and away league goals against the Foxes in the same campaign was Danny Webber, in the 2004/05 Championship season.

Norway international King has scored three goals in his last five Premier League games against the Foxes, with all three of his strikes coming from the penalty spot.

Leicester’s James Maddison has been involved in six goals in his six meetings with Watford in all competitions (4 goals, 2 assists) – against no side has he been involved in more in his English football career.

Since 2014/15, only Harry Kane (40) has been directly involved in more Premier League goals against newly-promoted sides than Jamie Vardy, while he’s scored 16 goals in his last 14 games against such teams.

The Dugouts

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has won five of his six Premier League meetings with Watford manager Roy Hodgson (D1).

The 74-year-old Hornets boss has taken charge of 380 top-flight matches, while Rodgers has managed 281 times.

Hodgson has faced Leicester City four times, winning twice and drawing once, and scoring eight goals.

Opposition Stat Attack

Maddison has had 31 shots on target this season – the most for the Foxes. The English midfielder is in the top 10 for strikes on target this season in the Premier League.

Harvey Barnes is top for assists in the Leicester City squad with eight, and is seventh overall in the league.

The winger is also top for dribbles attempted in the Foxes’ squad with 72, while Maddison is top for crosses attempted at 111.

Defensively, Çağlar Söyüncü leads the way for clearances (112) and blocks (27), while Wilfred Ndidi is top for interceptions (42).
