Stack: “We’ll Leave No Stone Unturned”

Graham Stack assured supporters he and Hayden Mullins will be working tirelessly over the coming days to ensure Watford’s 2019/20 campaign has a positive outcome when it concludes at Arsenal this Sunday.

The Hornets’ defeat to Man City, coupled with Aston Villa’s win against the Gunners last night, may have seen the team drop into the bottom three, but Stack says they owe it to the supporters to be meticulous in their preparation for a crucial match at the Emirates Stadium.

“One thing I can guarantee is we will do our very best, we’ll leave no stone unturned, we’ll do what’s best for the players and most importantly the club and the supporters,” said Stack, who is assisting Interim Head Coach Mullins.

“We want to give the fans something to smile about, something to be proud of, and we want to play our part in doing that.

“We’re committed to the club, we’re committed to the team and we’re going to do our very best to make some people happy come the end of the season.”

It will have been a disappointed dressing room at full-time yesterday, but Stack – a popular figure among the playing staff – will be working with Mullins over the coming days to lift spirits and put in the necessary work at the training ground to give the Hornets the best possible chance.

“It’s difficult to lift the lads straight away, there’s a lot of emotion involved,” he said.

“Hayden’s been very honest with them, we’ve got another game to go, there’s still points to be played for and regardless of what goes on elsewhere we’ve got to take care of our own performances.

“We’ll go into the Arsenal game with a plan that we feel is going to be effective on the day, and we’ll pick a team that we believe is going to go there and get us a result.”

It’ll be an unusual return to North London for Stack, who came through Arsenal’s youth ranks before playing five times for the first team, and was also part of the ‘Invincibles’ squad that went unbeaten in 2003/04. But the former Gunners goalkeeper is only interested in one outcome this weekend.

“I’m at Watford Football Club now and I’ll do everything I possibly can to beat Arsenal, regardless of the history I’ve got with the club,” he said.

“I had some wonderful years there but I’m now in the dugout for Watford and I’ll always do my very best to get the best out of the players and the best out of myself, regardless of who we play.”
