Sporting Director: Change For Hornets

By: Watford FC Staff

Cristiano Giaretta is leaving his post as Watford FC’s Sporting Director to pursue a new opportunity, and will be replaced by the club’s former Technical Director Gian Luca Nani.

The Hornets thank Cristiano for his dedication and professionalism during his tenure, and have moved quickly to appoint a replacement who has great familiarity with both the club and the role itself.

“I would like to personally thank Gino Pozzo for the incredible opportunity I've had here and to Scott Duxbury for his vital daily support,” said Giaretta of his three years at Vicarage Road.

“Thanks also to Valérien Ismaël, all the players and staff and all the people at the training ground with whom joys and sorrows have been shared over recent years; they are an amazing group.”

Added the 55-year-old Italian: “I hope the supporters can see their colours in the Premier League again. I wish them the best. Never give up, that's for sure!”

Turning to the future, having first taken up the role of Sporting Director at Italian club Brescia in 1999, the experienced Nani will now assume the post with the Hornets after first joining Watford in summer 2012 - alongside CEO Scott Duxbury - as part of new appointments which heralded the ownership of the Pozzo family.

After two years at Vicarage Road, which followed a similar tenure at West Ham United, Nani enjoyed spells at Al Jazira Club in the UAE and most recently back in the UK with Reading.
