Spain Diary: Day One

The Hornets wasted no time in getting to work on day one of their training camp in Algorfa, Spain, with an action-packed day of travelling, checking-in and training at the La Finca resort on Monday (November 21).

Departing for Alicante Airport at 10.30am GMT, the group touched down in the south-east of the country two hours later before travelling by coach to their accommodation for the week, being greeted by Spanish defender Mario Gaspar upon arrival.

Catching the second half of England’s 6-2 triumph over Iran in the Three Lions’ opening group game of the FIFA World Cup while tucking into lunch, a brief break allowed the team to check into their rooms before heading to training for 4.30pm local time 10 minutes away from their residence.

With the sunset behind them, the team began their first session under the watchful eye of Slaven Bilić and his coaching staff, with passing drills and a fast-paced mini-game, before a cooldown lap around the scenic pitch.

Back at the resort, the players returned to the restaurant with a familiar face on their screens, as Ismaïla Sarr represented Senegal in their Group A clash with the Netherlands.

Settling down for dinner and joined by Yáser Asprilla, the Golden Boys enjoyed their evening meal and tuned into the final game of the day, as Wales took on the United States in Qatar.
