Sissoko: “There Were A Lot Of Positives”

Watford midfielder Moussa Sissoko believes a determined performance against Liverpool can inspire the Hornets going into the final matches of the season.

Diogo Jota headed the home side in front before Fabinho concluded proceedings by notching a late goal from the spot, securing a 2-0 victory for the Reds.

The Frenchman felt the Golden Boys had the chances to take something from the match, but were unable to find the net in those pivotal moments.

“I am disappointed because we lost the game. It doesn’t matter against who, you want to win,” said Sissoko.

“We knew before the game we were going to play against one of the best teams in the world, but if you look at the match, they didn’t create many chances and Ben [Foster] didn’t make many saves.

“The first goal that they scored, we had a big chance, and we didn’t [convert] and they scored straight after. You need to score when you get the chances against these teams because you don’t get many.

“We lost at the end with that penalty and of course we are disappointed but there were a lot of positives that we need to take into the rest of the season.”

Sissoko acknowledges the significance of the upcoming matches at Vicarage Road, with Watford facing teams rivalling them in the Premier League table.

The 32-year-old hopes they can build on their spirited performance against Liverpool to go into those encounters with momentum.

Sissoko explained: “We know that the massive games will be at home. We have four games at home and they will be very important for us, so we will need to win all of the games at home, but it won’t be easy.

“We have to make sure we stick together and we give everything on the pitch. If we do that, I think we will stay up with the performance today against one of the best teams in the world.

“I think there are a lot of positives to take. Now we are going to learn about what we did good and what we didn’t do good. We are going to need it for our next game against Leeds United at home (Saturday April 9).”
