Sarr: “We’ll Keep Pushing To Continue This Form”

Match-winner Ismaïla Sarr insisted he and his teammates will continue giving everything they’ve got ahead of the upcoming World Cup break, following Watford’s 2-1 triumph at Cardiff City that extended the team’s winning run to three games.

After falling behind to Cédric Kipré’s early header, the Hornets gradually grew into the contest in South Wales, equalising through Francisco Sierralta’s first goal since March 2021 before Sarr sealed the points in the second half.

Though somewhat scrappy - with the ball looking to have bounced off the Senegal international’s back following a Ken Sema corner - the strike marked Sarr’s sixth of the 2022/23 campaign, and second in three matches.

The 24-year-old - who revealed that the close-fought battle in the Welsh capital had left the whole squad exhausted - is keen to continue firing his team up the Sky Bet Championship standings, with the latest three points seeing the Hornets return to the play-off places.

While explaining that confidence is steadily growing within the team, Sarr expressed his thanks for the fans who made the long trip to Cardiff in particularly blustery conditions, and he is hopeful of rewarding the Vicarage Road faithful with another result back in match action against Coventry City on Saturday (November 5, 3pm KO).

“I’m very tired - the whole team is - but I’m very happy because we secured another good win and I managed to score a goal to help the team,” Sarr said.

“We conceded a goal after only nine or 10 minutes, but we stayed together and got the equaliser, which was pleasing. To then go on and get the win was great, and all the effort we put in was rewarded.

“I’m very happy to have scored my sixth goal of the season. It’s been a good start, but I’m very hungry for more and I will try my best to keep scoring so we can win as many games as possible.

“I want to keep winning games, and together we’ll keep pushing to continue this form. We know we need to stay focused, we have three games left until the World Cup and we’ll go again against Coventry on Saturday.

“I want to say a massive thank you to the fans. They played a big part in us getting the win tonight, and I want them to know that we’re all hugely grateful for everything they do for us. We all look forward to seeing them again this weekend, and hopefully the result will be the same.”
