Watford FC Women have made their first move in the January transfer window, bringing in talented young Welsh defender Morgan Rogers.

The new Golden Girl, who is at the club on a dual-sign agreement with Tottenham Hotspur, can’t wait to get started.

“I’m really excited,” Rogers told watfordfc.com. “I think it’s a really good opportunity to play Championship football and get back in a senior environment again.

“It was the chance to play senior football [that tempted me], and with Gifton [Noel-Williams – Interim Head Coach] coming in, I think it’s a good opportunity to show what I can do in yellow and black.”

Rogers trained with the group for the first time earlier this week and believes there are attributes she can bring to the Hornets.

“I think I have - it’ll be a good environment for me to be in going forward,” she said when asked if she had settled in well so far.

“I’ve got quite good technical ability and can read the game well, so that’s something that I can bring to the squad.”

One player who will be familiar with the talent that Rogers possesses is Helen Ward. The two have trained together recently while on international duty with Wales.

“Hels when I first went into Wales [set-up] welcomed me with open arms,” Rogers revealed. “Being at Watford will be a good opportunity to learn off someone with loads of experience.”

With half a season to go, there are plenty of opportunities for the new addition to showcase what she can do with the Hornets.

“I’m excited to show what I can do,” said the Welsh youth international. “It’ll be a really good opportunity for people to see what I can do and hopefully I can make a big difference for Watford going forward.

“That’s my ambition, to make as big a difference as I can for Watford, and just enjoy the experience and enjoy playing football.”

The new arrival will be looking to make her debut this weekend, as the team travel to Liverpool. Rogers is expecting a decent match and is hopeful of the team moving up the table in the second half of the campaign.

“It’ll be a good game,” she said. “With them being top it’s obviously a good challenge.

“With the hard work and with Gifton coming in, I think that’ll give us a good chance to move up the table in the second half of the season.”
