Retro Kits: Vote Now In Group B!

By: Watford FC Staff

Watford fans can now decide which two former kits will be the latest additions to our retro range with Copa in the Hornets Shop.

Following yesterday's Group A vote, the poll for Group B is now open. So, pick your favourite below from 9am-9pm today (Tuesday February 9) and the top two will make it through to the finals later this week!

Note: Votes are also being cast on Twitter, so the numbers seen above are not the final results. The tallies will be added together to decide the winners.

Group B Choices

1976-77 Away Shirt: A firm favourite among many die-hard Watford kit fanatics, this bright red strip with its yellow and black trim is simple, bold and very eye-catching. It also featured the original cartoon 'Harry the Hornet' badge, which differentiates this from the similar shirt which followed in 1978. There were in fact a number of iterations of the red away kit during the 1970s, but we agree Ross Jenkins & Co. looked best in this one.

1991-93 Home Shirt: Someone once decided that alternating red and black parallelograms along the chest of a yellow shirt would be a good look for a Watford kit. And they were right. The smart collar and subtle pattern of the club crest across the fabric added to the luxurious feel of this top, which celebrated the club's 'official centenary'. There was even a special badge for the event.

1989-91 Home Shirt: Bright yellow with a subtle chequered pattern, this is another simple and elegant Watford kit which saw in the 1990s for the Hornets. It has a unique collar, and traditional black and red trim. In this kit, Paul Wilkinson became the first player to be top scorer in three consecutive seasons for the club.

1983-85 Away Shirt: The white away version of the early-to-mid-eighties kit, this design evokes memories of Watford's greatest ever seasons. The Hornets played in Europe and reached a first ever FA Cup final, led by the great Graham Taylor and Sir Elton John. Faint stripes and an elegant trim around the collar and sleeves transform the mimimalist kit into a work of art.

What's Next...

The 1995-96 home kit won Group A to seal a place in Final 1 on Thursday, with the second-placed 1991-93 away shirt earning a spot in Final 2 on Friday.

Joining these kits in the finals later this week will be the runner up of Group B (Final 1) and the winner of Group B (Final 2).

The two winning designs from these finals will then be sent to Copa for production and will be added to our retro range at the Hornets Shop HERE.
