Reaction: Kayembe On Plymouth Draw & AFCON Call-Up

By: Watford FC Staff

Edo Kayembe spoke to watfordfc.com after scoring the opener in the Hornets’ 3-3 draw with Plymouth Argyle on a thrilling New Year’s Day encounter in Devon.

The midfielder broke the deadlock early on with his fourth goal in 11 games, but a topsy-turvy encounter finished all-square despite goals for Ismaël Koné and Ryan Andrews.

Read the thoughts of Kayembe – who now departs for AFCON with DR Congo – below…

It was a difficult game. We started well with the goal and scored early, but at the back it got a little bit difficult to defend and we didn’t do it well. We conceded the next two goals too fast.

The conditions were difficult but we tried to adapt to the pitch, to the weather and to the game. We had to fight for that.

In this [more advanced] position I play, I have more responsibility trying to go forward, always being on the edge of the box or sometimes in the box. I had the chance to score, and I made it.

I am very happy to play for my country. It’s one of the goals I had a long time ago, to play in the African Cup.

It’s my first African Cup so I feel happy, and I am happy to go there and play for my country.
