Reaction: Ismaël On Norwich Defeat

By: Watford FC Staff

Valérien Ismaël spoke to watfordfc.com after Watford's 4-2 defeat to Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Read what the Head Coach had to say below...

It was the expected difficult away game. It was similar to the first game with them, we conceded two goals. But we kept the rhythm and came back into the game and I think with the goal from Mileta [Rajović], it was another game.

We thought that we will turn the game again. We had a big chance at the end of the first-half with Matheus Martins to draw level. I think in the second, until the goal from Yáser we were on top and we were the team that wanted to win.

We came back into the game, Norwich was completely out of the game. From nowhere there was a lucky third goal for them. But the fourth goal for us was really painful.

It [the third goal] was a long ball, [Ashley] Barnes wanted to deflect straight away, we blocked the ball but it came back and it put him in a better situation. The fourth goal was a killer for us. How it happened is unacceptable.

[Coming back from 2-0] shows again the mentality within the squad. How we can score goals to come back into the game.

But you need to stay in the game and everyone needs to play the game and believe, and put the performance in. If one player is not able to put in a performance it brings everyone into a dangerous situation.

When you make substitutes you expect that the players add something to the team. One substitute pays off with Yáser [Asprilla], he scored an unbelievable goal tonight so credit to him.

The two positive things are an awesome goal and we came back from 2-0 down away. But it’s just the consistency that we’re not able to finish strong.

Everyone has to be on top and to help the team to win, especially when they come from the bench to help the team to do the extra miles. Because the others have run since 60,70,80 minutes and we need everyone to help.

The fans were unbelievable. After 2-2 I had a great feeling and we were backed to get the reward. It's a tough situation at the minute and a strange feeling.

We were in control, we were on top and ready to come back into the game but we can't give the reward to our fans.

We keep pushing. We have another game on Saturday and we expect everyone to be on top for Saturday.
