Reaction: Hoedt Speaks After Huddersfield Draw

By: Watford FC Staff

Wesley Hoedt spoke to watfordfc.com following the goalless draw away at Huddersfield Town, with the Hornets stretching their unbeaten run in the Sky Bet Championship to five games.

Central defender Hoedt completed the full 90 minutes at the John Smith’s Stadium alongside Francisco Sierralta, helping to earn the club’s sixth league shutout of the 2023/24 campaign.

Read Hoedt’s thoughts below…

We’re frustrated with the result, because we came here to win. Of course the fact we’ve earned a clean sheet - and now gone five unbeaten - is positive, but I think we all believe we should have won. That’s what we came here to do.

If we look at the game though I don’t think we created enough, and that’s what we have to focus on addressing. That comes from the whole squad – right the way from the strikers, all the way to the defenders. Collectively we just didn’t do what we needed to get forward and punish them.

I think we could have moved the ball quicker from in behind. In the second half we improved, but we still weren’t able to penetrate them in the way we needed to, and formulate anything meaningful in the final third.

It was difficult because they were set up in a 5-4-1, and they put a lot of emphasis on set-pieces. We knew that, and I think we defended well and didn’t do anything silly, but we weren’t able to create enough to get the goal we needed.

I think since the Sunderland game we’ve changed a lot of things, and done a lot of good things. We have another game next Saturday against Rotherham, and we’ll all be focused on making sure we get a positive result there. It’s important we head into the next international break on a positive note, and give our fans something to smile about.
