Reaction: Hamer & Livermore On QPR Victory

By: Watford FC Staff

Match-winner Jake Livermore and goalkeeper Ben Hamer spoke to Sky Sports after Watford moved up to eighth in the Sky Bet Championship table with a 2-1 win over QPR.

Two strikes from outside the box by Livermore saw the Hornets gain a two-goal advantage, before Lyndon Dykes' effort from close-range set up a tense finish at Loftus Road.

A spectacular one-handed save deep into stoppage time saw Hamer deny Jimmy Dunne an equaliser as the Hornets held onto all three points.

Read what the pair had to say as the Golden Boys made it four wins from five on the road:

Hamer on the match and Livermore's efforts:

In the first half we didn’t really create too many opportunities. They got a couple and obviously in the second half we made a little mistake at the start of the half, we got away with one and then started to get more of a foothold. We started to create a couple more chances, and then obviously the big man turns up and scores an absolute belter. He’s given it the Cantona afterwards, which I was very pleased with, but obviously very pleased for Jake, he’s a hard-working lad and great around the changing rooms, and really deserved his goal today.

Livermore on his goals and the team's performance:

I think I have been due a couple. I've been getting a bit of stick from the lads for not chipping in, but I think it is a great team performance away from home. It is always difficult on a Sunday as well as you put added pressure on yourselves. There was a great save from the big man at the end as well. We dug in deep - they are a good side, and I think their luck will change. It's a great result all round.

I could hear Ben shout 'shoot' as well as the fans! But all jokes aside, I thought the boys were excellent throughout. It is nice to chip in with a few goals, obviously my role is different due to the style we play so when I do get the opportunity to get forward it is always nice to relieve a bit of pressure off the forwards.

Hamer on his late save and QPR's pressure:

It is my job to do that; as soon as Jake went off it all went pear-shaped! There was a flurry of attacks from them, and we just had to defend our box well. When they are throwing balls into the box, something is going to fall down for them and they are getting shots off. We just have to concentrate and be ready for anything that comes, and keep the ball out of the net which we managed to do, and it is nice to get a victory here.

Hamer on chasing the play-offs:
We have just got to be consistent. The teams above us are stringing wins together, Southampton are unbeaten in 20 games so those are the type of runs that you have got to put together. It is not easy, but we know that and we just need to keep working hard, especially away from home. We’ve been getting some good results away and we need to try and transfer that into our home form, and then we’ll have a half a chance.
