Reaction: Dennis On Winning Goal In Birmingham Win

By: Watford FC Staff

Goalscorer Emmanuel Dennis spoke to the media after the Hornets' 1-0 win away to Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Read what the forward had to say below as Tom Cleverley picked up a win in his first match as Interim Head Coach...

On his goal:

The manager said "you need to press them" and sometimes they would be sloppy on the ball. He was so confident that we were going to get a goal through the pressing, so I just did what he asked me to do. I pressed the man and got the goal.

For me, I like when goalkeepers dive low, so I hit the ball high. It was easy for me to put it up as he was going to go for one of the corners. I knew if I hit it high, then it was a 100 per cent chance of a goal.

On three points:

The whole team have been looking forward to having another three points, it’s been a while since we have got them.

Everyone has been working hard and the new manager has given us belief and encouragement.

Everyone gave 100 per cent, we got lucky as well but that’s football. We got the three points, everyone worked hard and I am very happy with the win.

On playing through a groin problem:

I almost wanted to miss the game because I wasn’t feeling good. But he [Cleverley] spoke to me and said that he needed me for the team and the club. Even though I wasn’t 100 per cent, I will play through anything.

On Tom Cleverley's first week:

I am happy today that we gave him a good welcome and the three points.

He's a top guy, I have been with him as a teammate, friend and now manager and he’s always been top.

I like working with him so much, and I know he’s going to do great things in football. Sometimes it will be hard and sometimes it will be good but he will learn a lot, and I’m sure he’s going to do great.
