Reaction: Dele-Bashiru Discusses Preston Point

By: Watford FC Staff

Tom Dele-Bashiru spoke to watfordfc.com after the goalless draw with Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Hornets' number 24 gave his thoughts on the game and spoke about what life has been like under new Interim Head Coach Tom Cleverley.

Read what he had to say below...

I think we had control for most of the game. We had a lot of possession, but we didn’t create much. We were missing the last bit in the final third, that decisiveness.

The first half was a bit flat, and Tom [Cleverley] wanted us to raise the level in the second half.

They didn’t have any big chances in the second half. We had a few half chances, but we should have done better with them.

Tom said it was flat and he wanted us to raise our levels a bit more, push a bit harder. On and off the ball, [he wanted us] to be a bit more intense and I think we did that at the start of the half.

I think we expected to have a lot of possession today. We knew we had to create a lot of chances and break down their mid-block. In the second half we were probing but we missed something in the final third.

It [playing under Cleverley] has been great.

Obviously, I’ve played with him the last three or four years that I’ve been here. He’s a great guy, a good leader and he speaks with authority.

Everyone is really buying into his ideas and philosophy. We are all enjoying it and we want to end the season well. Hopefully Clevs gets the job next season.

Our home record hasn’t been great. No home win since November. Obviously, we want to change that.

We are working hard in training just to go out and give our best and make sure we get that home win.

It will come but we need to be a bit calmer and more decisive in the final third.

The way we set up now, we limit teams to very few chances, we are quite compact in defence. A clean sheet is a positive but it is disappointing not to get the three points.

In this formation the midfield has to get a lot of touches on the ball and I love being on the ball.

We know they [games with Ipswich and Southampton next week] will be tough games, but we’ve shown that we can compete against anyone in this league.

We don’t fear anyone and we will have a gameplan, so we will have to execute the gameplan to win the game.
