Reaction: Asprilla Discusses Sheffield Wednesday Win

By: Watford FC Staff

Goalscorer Yáser Asprilla spoke to watfordfc.com following the Hornets’ 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, with the Colombian teenager marking his 50th appearance for the club with the winner four minutes after coming on as a substitute in the second half.

A third win of the 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship campaign - and their first since mid-September - lifts Watford up one place to 19th in the standings, ahead of a mouth-watering trip to Swansea City in midweek (Tuesday October 24, 7.45pm KO).

Read Asprilla’s thoughts below…

It’s been a good afternoon. We’re happy to win - we deserved to win - it was not an easy game to get through on top, but at the end of the day we did enough and we go away with the three points.

I’m very happy to have scored the goal, especially because my family was here watching in the stands. It was great to get my second goal for the club - and the first of this season - and hopefully there are many more to come.

The manager [Valérien Ismaël] just told me to go on to the pitch and keep calm. We all knew we had enough to win the game, I just played my game and it was great to contribute so quickly and help the team get the right result.

I got the ball out wide and moved into the internal channel. I saw that the other attackers weren’t in great positions so I decided to have a go and thankfully it went in. It was a great feeling when the ball hit the net.

Hopefully the result can help relieve a bit of pressure and help us go into our next game on Tuesday a bit calmer. We knew being at home today it was important that we got the win - we’ve done that, and now we’ll be confident of doing the same at Swansea in the week.
