Reaction: Andrews Discusses Draw At Bristol City

Defender Ryan Andrews spoke to the media after the Hornets earned a point on the road in a 1-1 draw away to Bristol City.

Watford’s first penalty in over a year was cooly converted by Tom Dele-Bashiru, before Scott Twine marked his Robins debut with a goal to draw the sides level midway through the first half.

Neither team could find a winner in a tight second half as the Golden Boys made it six games unbeaten on the road, sitting just three points adrift of the play-offs.

Read what Andrews had to say below:

We went into the game knowing if we got the three points we would move closer to the play-offs, but I guess a draw is better than no points at all. We knew it was going to be a tough away game, I feel like the team played solid as a whole so the point is well deserved.

We got the early lead, but I feel like we gifted them their goal. We knew that we could still win and there was plenty of time to get back into the game, obviously it didn’t end really how we wanted it to but we got the point so we are still pleased.

We go back to some of our previous games that we should have won, we gave away errors for their goals so that is something we need to work on as a team but we are still playing well together, so there is not much to complain about.

It just wasn’t going the way we wanted it to today in the final third but that is something we can work on as a team at the training ground, whether that is that final pass that leads to a goal or creating another opportunity for someone else.

We’ve made set pieces one of our key points to work on throughout the season because at the start we were conceding a lot from them so we were pleased that we didn’t concede any of the set pieces today, we just stuck together as a team and defended them well.

I’m chuffed that I’m getting the opportunity that I am, I just have to keep it up and keep the games going and try and play the best I can every game.

Making the runs down the right is hard but the player that I am, it is my sort of game, it is definitely something that we try and use to our advantage, because I do have the pace so every time we do get down the right side we have to just try and be dynamic and go down with pace so it is hard but it’s all part of the game.

Sometimes you do have to think about it and know that if you do go and the pass gets intercepted then you have to run 70 yards back and make it harder for yourself but when there are chances that I can do it, I do it. Sometimes obviously I know in my head that there is not a chance to do it because if I do I have to make the 70-yard run back, so it is strategic.
