Watford FC is delighted to announce that James Morris has signed a contract extension, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal with an option for a further year.

The 21-year-old, who joined the Hornets’ Academy in August 2021, has featured 13 times in yellow this term having broken into the first-team squad at left-back.

Pleased to have signed a new deal, Morris expressed his happiness at extending his stay at Vicarage Road.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve enjoyed the two years that I’ve been here, so to make it an extra three is something that makes me really excited to see what the future holds.

“It’s been a great year for me personally to get involved with games. To have played in a couple of big games like Norwich City and Sheffield United - it has been a great experience and a great learning curve for me.”

Having made his debut for the club in January 2022 against Leicester City in the Emirates FA Cup, Morris has enjoyed a rapid rise into the first-team picture.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind,” he added. “I think last year I didn’t really expect to play at all, so to be given my debut was a massive thing.

“This year, at the start of the season, I wasn’t really in the first-team, but now at the end of the season I have played a lot of games and it’s been good. The most important thing is that there has been a lot learnt and I’ve really enjoyed it.

“We have a lot of experience in the squad, which has been good for me and that has helped me to develop.”

Focusing on making the supporters proud, the full-back appreciates his relationship with the Watford faithful and is hoping to continue to deliver for them.

“It is a great feeling and they have been really good with me,” Morris continued. “I’m a young player so it has been nice to get out there in front of the fans. Especially the games when we have won, to go out at the end and clap them is a really great experience.

“I just want to push on now. I think next season, obviously, for me personally I want to have a good season and the club as well. We know this year hasn’t been the best with what we wanted to achieve, but next year hopefully we can push on and get promoted. Personally, I just want to play as many games as possible and keep developing.”
