Watford FC confirms that midfielder Imrân Louza has become the latest first-team star to commit his long-term future to the Hornets, with the Morocco international having signed a new contract running until the summer of 2028.

Despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season, Louza made a big impression after joining from FC Nantes in June 2021, going on to feature 22 times in all competitions.

The left-footer - who was born to a Moroccan father and a French mother - impressed the Vicarage Road faithful with his passing ability, while his football brain and versatility helped him emerge as a key player in the latter half of 2021/22, and secure 11 straight starts in the top-flight between February and April.

After missing the final four league games of last season, Louza underwent surgery to resolve a niggling knee injury in the summer, with his subsequent rehabilitation programme having so far prevented his involvement in the current campaign.

The 23-year-old - who won four of his 10 international caps at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year - is however edging closer to a return to match action, having gradually upped his involvement with the rest of the first-team squad at the London Colney training ground.

News of Louza’s fresh deal follows João Pedro’s commitment to the Hornets last week, and the former is itching to help fire the Golden Boys up the Sky Bet Championship table under new Head Coach Slaven Bilić over the coming weeks and months.

Louza said: “I’m very happy to sign a new contract. I’m really happy here, and I’m looking forward to playing as many games as I can to help try and seal promotion to the Premier League.

“I’ve been working very hard on my recovery, in the gym and on the pitch. It’s not been easy, but now I’m back with the ball and my teammates which is really pleasing.

“It’s going to be great to get back on the pitch in front of the Watford supporters again, at Vicarage Road. Hopefully I will see them all soon.”
