Watford FC confirms the transfer of João Pedro to Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee – effective from the summer transfer window open date.

While the deal details will remain between the two clubs, the initial fee and potential add-ons rank it among the very highest transfer fees secured in EFL history.

The Brazilian forward will depart Vicarage Road with the club’s best wishes as he pursues European ambitions with Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls.

“It can be a surprise to no one that João Pedro leaves us now for the Premier League,” said the club’s Technical Director Ben Manga.

“Supporters will understand this agreement is right for all involved. This early action allows us to plan an effective transfer window as we seek to build a competitive team for next season.

“The transfer happening so soon allows us to start the important work for this summer transfer window.”

Supporters will get a chance to say farewell to Watford’s No.10 before kick-off at the final game of the 2022/23 season against Stoke City at Vicarage Road on Bank Holiday Monday May 8.

Manga added: “To announce this news now will give our supporters a chance to reflect on João Pedro’s time here since January 2020, so everyone can be ready to say goodbye and good luck.”

João Pedro has scored 24 goals in 80 starts for the Golden Boys, adding a further 29 appearances as a substitute.
