Watford FC have agreed terms with Canada international midfielder Ismaël Koné.

Koné, who has just returned from competing at the 2022 World Cup, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Hornets and joins for an undisclosed fee from January 1, 2023.

The highly-rated 20-year-old featured in each of Canada’s Group F matches against Belgium, Croatia and Morocco, and has nine international caps to his name.

He signs from Montréal, who finished second in the 2022 MLS Eastern Conference and third overall, achieving a club-record 20 wins.

Born in Ivory Coast, Koné moved to Canada aged seven and signed a professional contract with hometown club Montréal in August 2021, making his debut in February 2022.

He went on to play 32 times for ‘the Impact’, attracting genuine interest from clubs across Europe before settling on a transfer to Vicarage Road.

Welcome to Watford, Ismaël!
