Watford FC is pleased to confirm the permanent signing of goalkeeper Ben Hamer on a free transfer, with the 34-year-old having put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets’ latest arrival is a hugely experienced figure with more than 300 career appearances to his name, for the likes of Leicester City, Huddersfield Town and Swansea City.

Having started his career at Reading, Hamer made temporary moves to Crawley Town, Exeter City and Brentford, winning the 2008/09 League Two title and that season’s Golden Glove with the Bees.

More than a century of appearances for Charlton Athletic followed, with the Chard-born star helping the Addicks clinch promotion to the Championship by winning the third-tier in 2011/12.

Hamer moved to Leicester in 2014 where he enjoyed four productive seasons, while he also made his Champions League debut for the Foxes against FC Porto in the group stage in December 2016.

After moves to Huddersfield in the top-flight and Derby County, more recently Hamer settled at Swansea where he kept nine clean sheets in 23 games during the 2021/22 campaign before departing South Wales.

Welcome to Watford, Ben!
