Watford FC confirms the appointment of Julian Dicks as Assistant Coach.

The former West Ham and Liverpool defender joined Slaven Bilić’s backroom team late last week having coached under the Croatian for both the Hammers and West Bromwich Albion.

Known for his tough tackling and set-piece expertise as a player, Dicks began his professional career with Birmingham City before switching to West Ham in 1988.

During two spells for the Irons the left-back racked up more than 300 appearances, winning the club’s Player of the Season award a remarkable four times.

Sandwiched between his stints in East London, Dicks earned a big-money move to Liverpool in 1993, spending one season at Anfield before returning to West Ham.

Finishing his playing career with Canvey Island, the former England Under-21 and B international moved into management with Wivenhoe Town, Grays Athletic, West Ham Ladies and Heybridge Swifts.

Bilić took his former West Ham teammate back to Upton Park in 2015, where he served as part of the coaching team until 2017, before reuniting with the Croatian at West Brom for an 18-month spell in 2019.

Having recently departed his role as Technical Director at Carolina Velocity, Dicks joins up with Bilić once more in the Sky Bet Championship with Watford.
