Watford FC is pleased to confirm the signing of Leandro Bacuna on a free transfer, with the experienced midfielder having put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The 31-year-old arrives at Vicarage Road with a plethora of Sky Bet Championship and top-flight pedigree, and over 400 career appearances to his name.

Born in the Netherlands, but a full Curaçao international, Bacuna started out at Eredivisie side FC Groningen, working his way up the youth ranks.

After four consistent seasons in the Dutch first division, he made the jump to the Premier League to join Aston Villa where he featured alongside current Hornets captain Tom Cleverley.

During his four years in Birmingham, Bacuna helped the Villans to their first FA Cup final in 15 years in the 2014/15 campaign.

An 18-month stint with Reading soon followed, before he left for South Wales to feature for Cardiff City in January 2019.

A key figure in the Bluebirds’ squad, in both the Premier League and the second-tier, the versatile operator made over 100 appearances including two in the 2019/20 Championship play-offs.

Having departed the Cardiff City Stadium in the summer, Bacuna, who has been training with Slaven Bilić’s squad for a number of weeks, has signed terms with the Golden Boys and is available for selection immediately ahead of Saturday’s match at Huddersfield Town (December 17, 3pm KO).

Welcome to Watford, Leandro!
