Watford FC are delighted to announce the signing of promising striker Henrique Araújo, on loan until the end of the season from Portuguese giants Benfica.

The 21-year-old arrives with an impressive pedigree having featured for the Eagles’ first-team, B-team and academy sides throughout his five-year association with the club, making 20 appearances this term, including five in the Portuguese top-flight.

Rising through the ranks at Benfica, Araújo made his debut for the first-team in February 2022 before aiding his side to their first-ever triumph in the UEFA Youth League, scoring a hat-trick during the final in May 2022.

Whilst enjoying his breakthrough season in 2021/22, Araújo was also awarded the Portuguese second-tier’s Young Player of the Season prize for his contribution to the Eagles’ B-team, who finished top scorers in the competition with Araújo having netted 13 times in 26 matches.

Most recently, the Portugal Under-21 international has scored in this season’s UEFA Champions League, helping to secure a 6-1 victory against Maccabi Haifa and his club’s progression to the last 16 of the prestigious competition.

Subject to international clearance, Araújo will now link up with Slaven Bilić’s Hornets and former teammate and compatriot João Ferreira.

He will wear squad number 21.

Welcome to Watford, Henrique!
