News: Second ‘Ask For Watford’ Event Held At Vicarage Road

By: Watford FC Staff

Watford FC, together with our Community, Sports & Education Trust, held the second ‘Ask For Watford’ event at the club’s Vicarage Road Stadium last week.

The first event in 2021 focused on the safety of women in and around the town of Watford, as well as at our matches. For the second event, focus turned to another important subject for women and a panel of guests discussed all aspects of the Menopause and the impact this has on individuals, relationships, work and home life.

The panel of guests were:

  • Clare Searle - Local GP with expertise in the Menopause
  • Diane Danzebrink - Menopause Support
  • Councillor Jennifer Pattinson - Watford Borough Council
  • Martin Weatherilt - Local resident with personal insight into the Menopause impact

The panel gave powerful accounts of their own personal experiences of the Menopause with candour, warmth and humour where appropriate and also discussed how families and friends can play a key role in providing support at home. The panel also talked about how businesses can support employees who are going through different stages of the Menopause, before answering questions from an audience of around 150 guests.

Watford Council is also in the process of becoming a Menopause-friendly town as part of its recent election manifesto and the panel also discussed their plans, which both the club and Trust will continue to support.

“We’d like to publicly thank Clare, Diane, Jenny and Martin for their inspirational words and contributions to the evening,” said Dave Messenger, the club’s EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Lead. “We look forward to continuing the conversation, working with the panel. As demand for the event was huge, we’re already planning to host this event again in the New Year and will share details in due course.”

Menopause Support is a not-for-profit community interest company and the home of the national #MakeMenopauseMatter campaign, both founded by panel member Diane Danzebrink.
