News: Sarr Reaches A Century Of Appearances For The Hornets

Watford winger Ismaïla Sarr reached a century of matches in yellow last night against Swansea City, marking the occasion with a goal at Vicarage Road.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Hornets in 2019, has been an integral part of Watford’s squad over the years, wearing the number 23 shirt in a variety of forward positions.

This campaign, the Senegalese forward has enjoyed a purple patch with four goals and two assists to his name, including his latest strike against the Swans, firing the ball into the bottom corner following Ken Sema’s pass.

After arriving from French side Stade Rennais, Sarr played 30 times in his debut season in English football, scoring six and providing his teammates with six assists.

Most notably during his opening season at The Vic, Sarr contributed to a famous 3-0 victory over Liverpool, etching his name onto the scoresheet twice against an unbeaten Merseyside squad.

He also notched the first against Manchester United, firing the ball into the ground to beat a hapless David de Gea in-between the sticks that afternoon.

Despite relegation to the second-tier in 2020, Sarr’s quality never faulted, scoring three goals in four games between October and November, starting with his first of the 2020/21 campaign against Wycombe Wanderers.

The forward was a vital part of Xisco Muñoz’s promotion-winning Watford side, significantly earning an incredible five goal contributions against Bristol City in February 2021.

In total, he would rack up 13 goals and 10 assists as Watford bounced back at the first time of asking.

Returning to the top-flight, Sarr scored on the opening day against Aston Villa, helping the Golden Boys to a 3-2 victory against the Villans.

He would also come back to haunt the Red Devils, as he played an essential role in a famous 4-1 thumping of Manchester United last November, scoring the second goal.

Despite an injury-laden second-half of the season, Sarr would win the illustrious Africa Cup of Nations with his country Senegal at the start of 2022, contributing with a goal and an assist on the way to carving himself into the history books.

Into his fourth season at The Vic, Sarr has already shown his class on numerous occasions, and he produced a Goal of the Season contender from his own half at West Bromwich Albion in just the second clash of the campaign.

Having notched his 28th Watford goal on his 100th appearance, Sarr will be hoping to add to his tally back on the pitch at Blackpool on Saturday (October 8, 3pm KO), and steer the Golden Boys up the Sky Bet Championship table.
