News: Hornets Confirm Coaching Staff

By: Watford FC Staff

Tom Cleverley has moved quickly to confirm the coaching staff who’ll assist him as he takes up the role of Interim Head Coach with the Hornets.

Assisting Tom for coaching duties will be Armand Kavaja and Damon Lathrope, with Jimmy Gilligan assuming the role of Technical Consultant.

All three have enjoyed longevity of service to Watford in different roles and across different eras.

Kavaja has coached in a number of positions for the club, most recently as Cleverley’s assistant helping develop and grow the players in their care at Under-18 level – the team that, as well as being second in their league group standings, will tomorrow travel to Swansea City for a Professional Development League Cup semi-final.

Former professional footballer Lathrope is the current Watford FC Women’s Head Coach who led the side to promotion last season and has the Golden Girls in with a fighting chance of survival in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

And needing of little introduction to Golden Boys’ followers who watched Graham Taylor introduce home-grown youth-teamers into his rampaging teams of the 1980s, former Hornets’ striker Jimmy Gilligan – officially the club’s Academy Head of Technical Development – will assume the role of Technical Consultant, lending his experience to Cleverley and the coaching group.

Chris Douglas will also join Cleverley’s back-room team, in the role of First-Team Analyst.
