Muñoz: “Today Is The First Step”

Xisco Muñoz said he saw plenty of signs from tonight’s FA Cup tie at Old Trafford that the Hornets are moving firmly in the right direction.

Scott McTominay’s header settled the game as early as the fifth minute, but there were lots of positives for Watford, who went toe to toe with a Manchester United team sitting second in the Premier League on goal difference only.

“I’m proud of my players,” said Muñoz at full-time.

“Every day they are growing up, every day they are working very hard and we need to continue. I think we had a good performance and it’s important we believe in our team.

“We know we had a very good team against us but the guys gave us very good intensity. The team pushed up every time and we tried to recover the ball so much.”

Watford were positive on the ball and pressed well without it, and Muñoz claims this is a style of play supporters can expect to see more of in the coming weeks.

“This is our way. I’m very happy with the guys because they worked hard,” he said.

“It’s not easy to play like this but today is the first step. It’s not enough, we need to work on little details and we need to continue.”

The Spaniard was also pleased with his first glimpse of Danish winger Philip Zinckernagel in match action.

“I’m very happy with him,” said Muñoz.

“He’s a very good player, he gives different things to the team. He has good intensity, he does good things with the ball and it’s perfect for the group to have him here.”
