Muñoz: “It’s Important We Play As A Team”

Xisco Muñoz is determined to start strong on Sunday as Watford take on Tottenham Hotspur away from home.

The Watford Head Coach wants his side to maintain a high intensity “from the first minutes to the last” in north London and to learn from last week’s defeat to Brighton.

“It’s important we come inside the game with a strong mentality and we are focused in the first minutes,” said Muñoz. “We need to learn about the last situation [against Brighton] and need to prepare in the first minutes with high intensity, full power and maximum focus. We stay together, stay narrow and make the most of any situation.”

The Hornets registered their first clean sheet of the campaign in midweek, beating Crystal Palace 1-0 in the Carabao Cup. The Spaniard was pleased with his side’s performance, and knows they gave their best.

“We know about the level of our players, I know they all gave the best performance the other day and we will see what happens in the next game,” he said.

Emmanuel Dennis played 45 minutes in the cup win, and has started both of Watford’s opening Premier League games. Muñoz hopes the forward can continue to impress in their upcoming fixtures.

“We knew about him [before signing], we saw videos of him and we knew his level,” he said.

“It is important he continues with the same. He gives us very good things in the last games and it is important to give this attitude and level in future games.”

Tottenham present a new challenge to Watford in their third match of the Premier League season and the Head Coach knows his side must be prepared.

“We know our opponent, we know what we have in front [of us],” he said.

“We know they are very good in transition, it’s important we try to stop this situation. We will try to have more control of the ball than against Crystal Palace but it is important to not give them the space they want. It’s important we stay strong mentally and physically, and also it’s important that we play as a team.”
