Loan Watch: McKiernan Marks Eastleigh Return With A Goal

It’s been another busy week for Watford’s players at temporary clubs, who continue to progress in their development on loan in England and abroad.

JJ McKiernan enjoyed a stellar restart to the second-half of his loan spell at Eastleigh, having re-joined the Spitfires until the end of the season recently following a productive opening period to their National League campaign.

The 21-year-old came off the bench to make an instant impact for his side during a 3-1 victory over play-off rivals Southend United on Saturday (January 28).

With Eastleigh two goals in front, the Shrimpers fired one back and despite some potential nerves as the game concluded, McKiernan exhibited impressive composure, striking well from the edge of the box and beating the Southend goalkeeper.

It takes the Northern Irishman to three goals for the season in the fifth tier, ahead of a clash against Barnet tomorrow (Tuesday January 31, 7.45pm KO).

Elsewhere, Joseph Hungbo made his debut for Huddersfield Town, coming off the bench during a 2-0 defeat to Coventry City in the Sky Bet Championship.

The winger recently confirmed a loan move to the Terriers, where he will remain until the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

Meanwhile, Shaq Forde played 90 minutes for York City in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Maidenhead United in the National League.

Also, William Troost-Ekong made his first start for Salernitana in the Italian Serie A during a 2-1 victory against Lecce on Friday (January 27).

The centre-half, who recently joined on a loan deal until the end of the campaign, was part of Salernitana’s first win since October as they look to maintain their top-flight status.
