Young forward Kane Crichlow can't wait to join up with Bermuda for the first time and be part of their attempt to reach their first ever World Cup finals.
The 20-year-old, who can play wide in a midfield four or in a front three, has been selected by the country of his birth for the CONCACAF Group B qualifiers against Canada on March 25 and Aruba on March 30. Three of the 24 teams in that section will qualify for the showpiece event in Qatar while a fourth will face a play-off.
“I'm pretty excited,” said Crichlow, who has been on the bench for the first team nine times this season. “This is my second call-up. The first time I wasn't able to go as my career had just started at Watford, but this time I'm able to go and I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully I can play in the games.
“It would mean a lot to my family if I got my first cap as I lived in Bermuda for nearly my whole life and all my family are from there. It's an honour to be called up by my national team and it should be a great experience.”
Bermuda are on an upward trajectory. They won the Island Games in 2013, reached their first ever major tournament in 2019 when they qualified for the Gold Cup and are now gunning to play on the biggest stage of all.
“It would be a big achievement for the island,” said Crichlow, who signed from AFC Wimbledon in the summer of 2019. “We have some good players, so hopefully we can get there as it would be a dream to make the country so proud.”
